Hello!
ABOUT ME: Wife to the perfect man for me. Mother of 2 little girls. Believer, advocate, domestic disaster, photographer, traveler, adventurer, beach lover and slightly hippie. I believe that I can change the world…I just never imagined it would look like this.
ME AND MY BOOK: I’m a lot of things (see above). But I’m not a writer. And yet last year I became convinced that I was supposed to write a children’s book to empower kids and families to make a difference. So in spite of all my fears of criticism and failure, and in spite of the fact that I had no spare time and was deeply unqualified, and with incredible amounts of support from my amazing husband, I wrote the book. I have no idea why I was supposed to write it and I have no clue what will come of it. But if ONE more child is sponsored because of it, or if ONE child feels empowered to make a difference because of it, then all the blood, sweat and tears to get this book out there will have been worth it.
God wants to use you. But probably not in the way you think. As long as you say “yes” He can do amazing things through you. I hope my story inspires you to pursue the things you feel called to do regardless of your fears or crazy circumstances.
One of the things that inspired “A Heart That Cares” is the relationship our family has with Abraham, our sponsor child in Ethiopia. My kids (ages 2 and 4 at the time of publication) had started asking my husband and I questions about him and his life and it was the perfect opportunity for us to explain some of the harder realities of the world to them in a personal but not disturbing way.
Instead of glossing over the issue of poverty, or explaining it in a big-picture sort of way that doesn’t register in a child’s mind, we were able to explain Abraham’s situation and still leave them with a positive: Because of our family’s relationship with him, Abraham has amazing opportunities to break the cycle of poverty and we have the amazing opportunity to watch our blessings multiply when we give them away.
That’s when it hit me that there are literally no tools out there for parents to teach their young children about these issues in a positive and empowering way. So we either just don’t teach them, or we teach them in a sad “there’s-nothing-we-can-do-about-it” sort of way.
My goal is to provide the tools you need to raise little, tiny world changers.
The second book will introduce the concept of Fair Trade and how our everyday purchases can make a global difference.
There are two specific ways you can help make the second book a reality:
